>University of Gloucestershire: The Summerfield Gallery, Pittville Studios

OVERVIEW

The large gallery (aprox. 60 x 40) forms the main entrance to the campus. It is however separately lockable when necessary. It is in fact twice this size, having a mezzanine level around the whole space. The space has recently been completely refurbished with new walls, lighting system, security etc. Exhibitions are put on for both the student cohort and the interest of the wider public. The gallery has a role as the major (only) space in the area for substantial art exhibitions.

NUMBER AND SIZE OF EXHIBITIONS

10 - 12 per year (inc. Jerwood Drawing, Jerwood Painting, Open West and National Illustration Prize).

SPECIFIC FOCUS

Fine Art, Illustration, Photography, and anything else of institutional or local interest.

MANAGEMENT AND ORGANISATION

The university runs the space. A committee from across the campus, and technical help from the areas as necessary.

RESEARCH AND FURTHER PROJECTS

Space is used for staff research projects and critiques of research projects. The exhibitions above (Open West etc.) demonstrate research and provide research material. Selected exhibitions (such as Obsession for Collecting) provide research and curatorial experience. There are links with local festivals. Symposia are held (recently one on Drawing and one on Illustration).

CURRENT NETWORKS OR COMMERCIAL PARTNERS

We have connections with local charities and art groups, and a connection with the Jerwood network.
