>Liverpool John Moores University

NUMBER OF EXHIBITIONS

At the moment, we put on about five or so shows per year - we will have three spaces soon, and do offsite work, so this will multiply.

SPECIFIC FOCUS

We have a focus on, wherever possible, working with national/international artists and designers on projects that, in some way, can involve our staff and students - this may run from simple invigilation possibilities (Martha Rosler Library) to events in which we collaborate with people like FACT and Grizedale arts to put on events (Creamfields 08). We try to avoid straight forward traditional shows of work. We like to develop more involved projects. We are interested in any contemporary art/design that's cutting edge - regardless of format.

MANAGEMENT AND ORGANISATION

At the moment the gallery is mainly run by the university in collaboration with a range of local, national and international partners (on a project by project basis)

CURRENT NETWORKS AND COMMERCIAL PARTNERS

Liverpool has the best museum and gallery network outside London and the advantage that they all talk to each other and want to work with us. We've recently co-operated with RIBA to develop a line of products developed by students which were sold as the official merchandise at the recent Le Corbusier show in Liverpool.

ASPIRATIONS AND INTENTIONS FOR THE CHEAD GALLERY NETWORK

  • To find out what other partners are up to.
  • Projects (long term as well as short term, that we could build up - leading to develop AHRC bids/PhD research etc. where possible and appropriate - we have the possibility of doing this with FACT and Grizedale and possible Tate Liverpool and Liverpool Biennial, but we'd be looking for good academic partners).
  • To begin to network with appropriate partners on possible collaborative shows etc - and the development of a robust theoretical and critical curatorial model that impacts credibly and positively on our pedagogic delivery and development - at the same time as raising our local, national and international profile in the general public.
