>University of Arts London: The Arts Gallery

OVERVIEW

The Arts Gallery is an exhibition space in the heart of central London, dedicated to promoting the creative talent of specialist art and design subjects taught at the University of the Arts London. The Gallery programme, comprises six exhibitions a year and includes solo shows, which are often the featured artist's first major show, survey shows focusing on a theme or medium and group shows.

Whenever possible, exhibitions in the Arts Gallery are staged to tie-in with major cultural events in London, such as the annual London Design Festival and Frieze Art Fair.

Recent exhibitions have featured work by distinguished alumni including Peter Doig (Chelsea, 1990), Sarah Lucas (LCC, 1984), Chris Ofili (Chelsea, 1991), Gillian Wearing (Chelsea, 1987) and Mark Wallinger (Chelsea, 1981), as well as work by lesser known recent graduates at the beginning of their careers. Described by the Evening Standard as 'good for discovering promising artists', the Arts Gallery is fast building a reputation as a launch pad for the latest art and design talent in the UK.

The Gallery is located at: University of the Arts London, 65 Davies Street, London, W1K 5DA
This space will be closing in 2010 while we move to a new location.

MANAGEMENT AND ORGANISATION

The Gallery is run as part of The Emerging Artists' Programme at University of the Arts London, which is the only programme of its kind in the UK. This innovative scheme was created to provide opportunities for recent alumni from across the University's six Colleges with the aim to promote their work and develop their careers during the formative years after graduation. The Programme is made up of three strands - the Arts Gallery, the University Art Collection and the Artists' & Collectors' Exchange.

Medeia Cohan-Petrolino is Curator of the Gallery and heads the Emerging Artists’ Programme.
