>Joining CHEAD

CHEAD membership is open to institutions offering higher education in art and design. Each member will nominate a so-called registered representative, who is usually the most senior academic concerned with art and design, i.e. Directors, Principals, or Deans or Dean equivalents, etc. In addition, we invite our members to nominate a deputy representative who, acting on a mandate, will have full voting rights and who will form part of the target audience for succession planning activities. Moreover, named deputies will be included in CHEAD working groups.

If your institution is interested in becoming a CHEAD member, please download the membership application form. Below you will find further information about the benefits and costs of CHEAD membership. If you have any further questions, please contact us.

Benefits of CHEAD membership
Member institutions receive:

  • Leadership training: succession planning is becoming an increasingly pressing concern in A&D HEIs. Together with the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education, CHEAD is developing a leadership training scheme to address this issue;
  • CHEAD publications on key current policy issues free of charge;
  • Newsletters providing regular information on key policy developments;
  • Seminars and conferences with key speakers from government, higher education and key external organisations.
  • Guidance and advice on various issues, such as RAE, Foundation funding, etc.
  • Access to networks at the various CHEAD events
  • Opportunities to discuss and influence policy agendas by joining debates and becoming a member of the CHEAD Executive Committee.

How much does it cost?
The current membership fee is £1,500 and covers the period from 1 August to 31 July. If your institution is joining in the middle of a year, we would discount the fee to 1st of the next month of the date of joining CHEAD (= (annual fee / 12) * no. of months remaining).
